Senate rejects bill to cut oil tax breaks: Now can we have a serious discussion about Energy Policy: The Hill

I support eliminating the Tax Subsidy’s for Big Oil as part of a broader package of a Comprehensive Energy Policy. That moves us towards Energy Independence and finally off of Foreign Oil. By promoting our own vast Natural Resources, as well as Energy Conservation which is better for our environment. I also support eliminating Tax Subsidy’s for Big Oil as a broader approach of Deficit Reduction. As part of eliminating Corporate Welfare. But with all of this talk and lets be honest its talk. Lets face it Big Oil is always a big target, especially with high Gas Prices like we have now. And especially in a struggling economy with low Economic Growth. We could eliminate these Oil Subsidy’s right now and wouldn’t bring our Budget Deficit down by a dime or bring our Gas Prices down by a dime. The vote in the Senate today was mostly about making Big Oil and their GOP Backers look bad. Senate Democrats knew they didn’t have the 60 votes going in. This was about making the Senate GOP look bad and making democrats look like they were on the side of americans paying the high Gas Prices.

Now that the Senate GOP has successfully blocked eliminating subsidy’s for Big Oil. That both sides knew was going to happen going in. Can we now have a serious discussion and debate if necessary about creating a National Energy Policy that finally moves us towards Energy Independence. And gets us off of Foreign Oil by promoting our own vast Natural Resources and Energy Conservation. Which will be good for our economy because of the jobs it will create. Good for our Foreign Policy because of nations that we currently rely on for energy would have less leverage over us. And good for our environment because of the Renewable Energy we’ll be using.
